In keeping with its democratic values, its political choices and its belief in the rotation of leadership at all levels, the Green Party of Lebanon held its general assembly to elect its new political bureau after the conclusion of the term of the outgoing president and bureau. The following members were voted in the Political Bureau:

Imad Fahat – Treasurer
Najah Jaroush – International Affairs
Vanda Chedid – Women Affairs
Rita Boustany – Environmental and Municipal Affairs
Mazen Nasreddine – Legal Affairs
Mohamad Al Khawli – Member
Fadi Chaar – Member
Female participation in the political bureau rose to 35%, in line with the Party’s principles and beliefs.
After the handing over procedures, the newly elected President Toufic Souk thanked the participants for their trust. He then thanked the outgoing President, Mrs. Nada Zaarour, for her stewardship of the Party during the last 6 years, reciting the many achievements accomplished by the Party under her presidency. President Souk added that the Party will persist in its vocation to address all national issues be they political, environmental or relating to the livelihood of the country’s citizens. He said the Party was open to cooperation with all groups who share the same vision with a view to promoting democracy, social equality, transparency, as well as putting an end to the corruption that is plaguing the nation.
Outgoing President Nada Zaarour thanked all those who worked tirelessly with her during her presidency and spoke of her experience in the struggle to make a change as well as her experience as a woman acting in the public domain. She also spoke of her experience in the Municipal Elections and Parliamentary Elections in which she run with two other candidates from the GPL. She explained how the GPL was now in a participative position at all levels, and she wished the new political bureau success.
The newly elected President Souk then offered Mrs. Zaarour, in the name of the GPL and its political bureau, a commemorative plaque in recognition of her invaluable contribution to the Green Party and the environment.
The President of the Green Party of Lebanon – in a few words
Toufic Souk was born in Tripoli in 1954.
He is a social, political and environmental activist with active participations in various movements: member of the Lebanese Association for Democratic Elections (LADE); ex-vice president of the Environmental protection committee in the North (EPC) in which he occupied several positions, Member of the executive board and former treasurer of Lebanese Environment Forum ( LEF ) and its representative in UNDP’s small Grants program; president of the Environmental Committee in Tripoli’s National Association for Social Work; ex-president of Thaqafat Association; founding member and ex-General Secretary for Tripoli’s Dispensaries Union; founding member and ex-Treasurer of the Lebanese Health Association; founding member and General Secretary of the Green horizon Association; he participated in the first phases of the founding of the Green Party of Lebanon, to be elected member in the first Political Bureau, then Secretary of the Arbitration Panel then General Secretary until his election as President; he participated in various activities of the Party and represented it at the Climate Change conference which was held in Marrakech, Morocco, in 2016.
